The police came to the maytrees' residence earlier this week following our email report a few days previously, of what seemed to me to be a tik-tok type stunt, foot stamp on our home's front door. So loud the noise of the kick had been that I had thought that maytrees mi had fallen down the stairs but he was as shocked as I was by the noise. There was no sight of the kicker who had clearly fled round a street corner.
We reported this small incident to the metropolitan police on-line crime website and were pleased when the police telephoned to look at the scene of the crime.
The PC who we invited in for tea, was most helpful. He took a statement and told us he was stationed at the nearby Ursuline High School. Apparently all London schools these days have an assigned police officer. They used to be paid by the Schools but now by the government, not that so far as I know, the BBC ever reports any of that interesting information.
PC G. said that he would send over a forensic scientist to examine the footprint on the door and he then helped tighten up our door lock.
He told us that the Mayor of London's attempt to close Wimbledon Police station a few years back failed, because police returning to their base there, passed by the home of the Wimbledon resident just in time to save his life after a dreadful attack on him.
Later that evening, when the forensic police officer arrived in her police van we chatted about about eg one of my sisters' life in the police force. The forensic officer, then did her work. She showed us how the rogue must have faced the street and kicked backwards on the door, presumably also facilitating his fast getaway. Before leaving, the forensic expert also cleaned the front door.
The relevant part of an email received later from the PC involved reads:
Apologies for lateness of email, it was a busy shift.
The crime reference number for your incident is ......
I hope the scene of crime officer came along and took a look at the door.
I’m also waiting to see if the occupants of number 8 has any footage on their CCTV camera.
We’ll let you know if we find anything out as soon as possible.
