Mrs maytrees and I had to visit Queen Mary's NHS Hospital Roehampton yesterday so decided to have a sandwich lunch and walk in nearby Richmond Park, afterwards.
The hospital does not have an A&E department so was quiet and welcoming. I enjoyed a coffee whilst waiting.
We then entered Richmond Park via the Roehampton Gate and enjoyed a sandwich lunch in the sunshine. Like Wimbledon Common over which earlier, I had enjoyed a long pre-breakfast walk, the Royal Parks including Richmond Park, do not charge for car parking.I believe that Acts of Parliament are required for car parking charges to be introduced. For some reason neither the Royal Parks nor the Commons Conservators yet seem to have sought the right to charge visitors though both have voluntary parking ticket machines. Possibly private Acts of Parliament are prohibitively expensive to secure.
Richmond Park places barriers up on the few roads through the Park over week-ends, to impede and reduce traffic.
The presence of dogs on the Commons can be irritating but with deer roaming Richmond Park I suspect that there, there can be more problems caused by dogs there, though we witnessed none.
We both enjoyed a light lunch of scrambled egg sandwiches on brown bread and a cup of tea at the nearby Colicci Cafe. Additionally I had what proved to be a delicious home made flapjack.
The Park was quiet on Friday a working day, so we undertook a pleasant walk. after lunch, to the Isabella Plantation.
The Rhododenrons and other plants within the enclosed plantation were in full bloom. By then though mrs maytrees was tiring, so we drifted back to the car for the journey home.
