Portsmouth and Southsea

Good friends having again invited us to their flat in Southsea, Mrs maytrees and I drove down from Wimbledon. We  have visited the friends  once or twice previously at their Southsea flat, but  although the route was familiar the weather was atrocious.

The weather on the drive down was ferocious with torrents of rain reducing visibility on  the A3 and A3(M) roads. However by the time we arrived the rain had ceased and there was some sunshine.

The friends' flat is in the former Royal Marines' barracks near the seafront.  The former parade ground was unaltered though we avoided any marching.

We all enjoyed lunch together at  a seafront pub and a Brittany Ferries ship sailed by as we dined.

The husband's politics are rather left of my own so we had a lively debate at one time though his view about the then deputy leader of the Labour Party was similar to my own. She who was the deputy prime minister, has since resigned from all her government posts.

After a very enjoyable afternoon and lunch the the journey home was in rather better weather and visibility than the outward trip.
