Though not an ardent royalist, I prefer a monarchy to a presidency/republic.
The reasons are partly financial, as a monarchy seems less expensive than a presidency; partly political, as in Republican countries such as the USA, there has to be sufficient split in political powers to reduce some of the huge powers of the president which can cause considerable difficulty in modernising the system of government, and partly personal experience. The latter surely includes the personal experience of HM The Queen after her 70 years on the throne.
Prince Charles who is about the same age as myself has matured well over that time so may continue that aspect in due course.
Young people in the UK at least, favour the monarchy rather less, than older people. In my view that is because the years have to pass before we mature, hopefully like fine wines.
In earlier European history when populations were rather younger than they are today, revolutions were more common than they are now. The French lost their monarchy and in my view at least are poorer for it though that is debateable given some of the monarchs they had had.
Napoleon led the French revolution and became emperor of France.
Napoleon well illustrates youthful rebellion in a way which is inapplicable to for example Sir Keir Starmer and our PM Boris Johnson.
President Macron though, is maybe still, on the youthful side.
Congratulations to HM Queen Elizabeth on her 70 years reign.
