On Monday this week, mrs maytrees, maytrees min and myself, went to the Wimbledon Tennis qualifying matches at Roehampton.
The low cost of the tickets, £15 each, was a surprise as one can pay £100s for a seat at Wimbledon Tennis. Car parking too, for the competition was straightforward and free of charge in Richmond Park, only a short walk away from the tennis grounds.
The grounds were excellent with seats at the four main courts which were available to all. There was no ticketing requirement for a specific seat as there often is at Wimbledon itself. The grounds were spacious with large screen for viewing similar to that on Henman Hill at the Wimbledon grounds, with ample places in the shade and sun to take refreshments.
The tennis was first class as the players were clearly playing their hardest to qualify for the main tennis at Wimbledon, which begins next week.
Overall, especially for those like yours truly, who find even if one manages to secure a decent seat in the Wimbledon Tennis ballot, the ticket price seems enormous, the qualifyers at Roehampton are excellent, affordable and easy to get to, being near to Barnes railway station as well as several bus routes.
Oh and sadly nearly all the British men lost despite their fantastic tennis. They all seemed to be teenagers though so more to come, surely.
