Occasional Walk with Siblings

This week youngest brother selected the route for the walk as being from the smallest Clapham Junction station exit to the Wandsworth roundabout thence on to where the River Wandle flows into the Thames. Interestingly, walking down the railway footpath to Wimbledon Station we passed by the old AELTC grounds (now used as a school's hockey grounds) off Worple Road.

The Wandle looks extremely clean at that point with wildlife abounding there though whether the position is different during rainy times because of sewer overflows is unclear. In any event the new long awaited London tunnels are soon to be completed which should protect local rivers, including the Thames, for a generation or more.

After some photographs we commenced the walk back.

The route back passed through several parts of what used to be fairly run-down South London but which have in recent years become much more interesting looking with decent shops, cafes etc.; Earlsfield comes to mind as a good example of recent improvement.

We then wended our way through side roads to Wimbledon Village, passing many heading towards the AELTC championships currently being played on its Church Road Grounds.

A delicious lunch at the new Black Sheep restaurant was then enjoyed by the three of us as a result of generous courtesy of youngest sister.

Interestingly the London Evening Standard took some photographs within the restaurant, which has only been open for a  month, whilst we were dining there.
