2024 FA Cup 3rd Round AFC Wimbledon v Ipswich Town

Youngest brother's birthday being in  few days time,  a trip to AFC Wimbledon's ground  in SW19 for their team's 3rd round FA Cup match against  Championship's Ipswich Town, was a good birthday present. Mrs maytrees meanwhile went shopping with youngest brother's wife Jan, with a view to us all meeting after the match for high tea together in Wimbledon Village.

The single decker bus 493 from Wimbledon Station to the ground was packed to overflowing with Dons' supporters so all were pleased to alight at the ground.

The game was a sell out and although we both had excellent seats we were slightly apart but near the front in the main Cappagh Stand. I was seated just behind the Ipswich trainer and substitutes' dugout with John being behind the those of the home team. Next to me was a younger supporter an we chatted about various matches and the Don's interesting position in Div. 2.

Some pictures:

Dave Beasant former pre-AFC Wimbledon  who was goalkeeper in that famous FA Cup final victory over Liverpool FC at Wembley was guest of honour.

Goals there were but AFC Wimbledon eventually lost 3-1. But theirs was a creditable performance and they were down to ten men as one was sent off following a second yellow card.

After the game John and I decided to walk back to meet our wives  and enroute were joined by a young Italian lady who was seeking Wimbledon Parkside to which we showed her the way, where she was seeking a new flat. We had wondered what our wives would make of her but she left us well before we met mrs maytrees and Jan.

We all then had an enjoyable high tea together in Maison St Cassien where  luckily a table for four had just become available.

A good finish to  good afternoon.
