Football Crazy Football Mad...

Once a year a blog post entitled as above  seems apt and this year is no different.

My blog post in 2019 really illustrates that the end of the 2020/2021 EFL season, is, from the point of view of possible relegation from Division 1 to Division 2 of AFC Wimbledon, little different now from what it was then - see AFC WImbledon 2019

However what has substantially  changed,  is that AFC Wimbledon having sold its Kingston ground for a tidy financial sum to Chelsea FC for Chelsea's ladies football, put that money to good use by buying the former Wimbledon Greyhound racing track close to the old Wimbledon FC ground - the latter has long since  been converted into new homes.

Some new flats have also been built on the greyhound racing stadium ground and are being sold on, but a new football stadium has also recently been completed there so AFC Wimbledon at last has a home ground in SW19 to which ground  they  have only recently moved and begun playing there.

What has not changed yet though is the Club's fight against relegation to Division 2.

A few weeks ago  however the Club brought in a new manager  their long serving coach, Mark Robson following the departure of Glyn Hodges, since when the team's drift towards the foot of Division 1 was halted and began to be reversed.

Their chances of survival in Division one increased during the week when they came back from 2-0 down against fellow struggler, Rochdale, to achieve a 3-3 draw with AFC Wimbledon scoring their equaliser with the final kick if the game during the 7th minute of injury time.

The Club is not yet out of the woods as there are two matches left to play with three clubs including Rotherham, which could still overhaul AFC Wimbledon. The latter has a rather better goal difference so Rotherham would need to win both of their remaining games by decent margins, with AFC Wimbledon losing both of theirs by some way for relegation to apply to Wimbledon rather than to either Rotherham or the other club Wigan. Wigan  currently has more points than Rotherham but fewer than AFC Wimbledon so is also at risk of demotion.

All three clubs have now played 44 games this season, so the position is tight as one of the clubs will be demoted.

Still; "C'mon you Dons".

Old Friends

One of the biological facts of age, at least in my own case is that the older one becomes, the more friends that fall by the wayside though ...
