47th Wedding Anniversary Afternoon

Having been given  Gordon Ramsay lunch voucher for a Christmas present by youngest sister, Mrs maytrees and yours truly visited the Gordon Ramsay sea food restaurant at London's Savoy Hotel in the Strand earlier this week.

The walk over Waterloo Bridge was somewhat windy and chilly but bracing nonetheless. The Strand itself was being resurfaced so was  half closed  with traffic flowing on the north side and one way, only.

The Savoy was as comfortable as ever and has been refurbished since we visited with my late parents  few years ago, for as I recollect a family dinner there.

Mrs maytrees and I were provided with a good table overlooking the Thames. We had an attentive waitress which was excellent. Interestingly there was at the adjacent table a well dressed couple who appeared to be of interest to the  media as I assume that the camera and sound engineers not so discretely present, were not really interested in the maytrees' family members.

As for the fare, we enjoyed some  delicious English  sparking wine Gusbourne Rose  from Appledore  in Kent, before and during the meal. The English bubbly was half the price of the least expensive French Champagne and doubtless tasted just as fine.

The menu appeared thus:

After a delicious lunch and happily fortified with the sparkling wine,  the Strand resurfacing works meant that the road was closed to buses heading west so we walked along The Strand from the Savoy, then over one of the Charing Cross footbridges, back to Waterloo Station, where conveniently a train was waiting.

Upon my (mrs maytrees who was by then a little tired so travelled by bus)  walking back from Wimbledon Station,  along the old Wimbledon tennis path now a footway, next to  the railway line I met a couple and their daughter who also live in Albert Grove. They were on the way to have dinner together to celebrate the daughter's birthday. She had selected a restaurant for them in Shoreditch, which the daughter explained was a part of London popular with young people. I wished her many happy returns and they wished us happy 47th!

A very enjoyable day out.
