Grandfather and Grandson - A Day Out

Mrs maytrees was unfortunately, ill on the day fixed for our day at the Vauxhall farm  with  almost five year old grandson Henry so the day turned instead, into a grandfather and grandson away day.

Henry enjoyed the train to Vauxhall station though  was bumped off his seat once as the train rattled through Clapham Junction.

At Vauxhall the walk to the farm was fine once the busy road had been crossed.

The weather was excellent for animal visiting. At the entrance to the farm we purchased for £1, some feed for the lambs and goats.

There were a number of other Henry aged children looking at the animals, some with voluntary helpers, to one of whom I spoke for a while and others with parents. The volunteer told me that many children in the area, had single parents at home and/or working mums, hence the children's groups being taken round the  farm.

Most children fed the sheep by hand but Henry decided to chuck his feed through to the floor of the compound though the animals seemed to have little difficulty in eating the same.

We both enjoyed seeing the two tiny lambs that had only been born forty eight hours previously.

The small farm was excellently laid out for children and the extensive washing facilities for their hands (and those of their helpers) were excellent.

After our visit Henry opted for the bus 156 back from Vauxhall Station to Wimbledon. Enroute the bus passed by the new American Embassy which I had not previously seen.

Interestingly the new Embassy unlike the old  was surrounded by a moat which I suppose slightly deters trespassers.

I now understand why the former President Trump refused to visit the premises as they are really rather ugly.

An interesting and unusual day out for  grandad and hopefully, grandson as well
